I have never met someone who loves the outdoors as much as this lady. Her passion + knowledge of plant life is inspiring + taking a walk through Stanley Park with her is both educational + fun. She had us eating roots that tasted like licorice and could name pretty much every plant/tree/bush that we saw. Anna is awesome + I am loving these images we captured of her in her element.

Happy Monday Everyone!

I feel like our blog has been neglected lately + for that we apologize. Life since returning from Vietnam has been busy…and we have loved every minute of it. We shot our first wedding of the season on Saturday, photographed an editorial shoot with Trim Hair Salon on Sunday + Monday, and have been having a great time hanging with our practicum student this week. Although I have been doing this a very long time, I still sometimes feel like a student…always learning, always growing. Having Tara with us this week has been a bit surreal. Never imagined that I would be at the place where someone else would want to learn from me. But here we are + it’s actually been a great experience.

During the off season we love to shoot as much as we can. We will usually pick on some of our friends who aren’t afraid to get behind our cameras. Anna was one of those friends. We got a rare sunny winter day for our shoot. We started at the new coffee shop in our neighbourhood, Lost + Found + made our way to the West End before finishing up in Stanley Park (that part you will see on Monday).

This is Anna.

She loves plants. Has a pet cat. Is dating our crazy friend Tom. Has the best smile/laugh. And is all around awesome.

We got home yesterday from a week vacation traveling from Palm Springs to Vegas. Although I would not want to live there I do really love the desert. It is so different from Vancouver and in its own way is so incredibly beautiful. We drove through Death Valley, stayed at the Ace Hotel, visited an old mining town with donkey’s roaming the streets, drove along route 66, almost ran out of gas in the middle of nowhere, and did a photoshoot in Joshua Tree. I also got to spend time with my family in Vegas, which was so much fun. It was a whirlwind of a trip but loved every minute of it.

I am really excited to share with you the shoot we did with our friends Hanne + Sierra in Joshua Tree National Park but the best I can do for now is a sneak peek :)

Right now we are in the heart of what we call our off season. This is the season that we take time to focus on the business aspect of photography + prepare for the busy summer that lies ahead. I have learned over the years that although the business aspect is not my favorite part, it is very necessary. Besides a few engagement + portrait shoots, for the most part we have to be purposeful in picking up our cameras. That is why we try to do as many personal shoots as we can during these months. Shooting for yourself is fun + good for the soul. I never want to get to the place where the only time I ever pick up my camera is when it’s for a paid gig. Personal projects are key to staying creative, fresh + inspired. I fell in love with photography not for the paycheck but because I love the art. Don’t get me wrong, I love that my passion also pays the bills. Not many people get to say that and I truly feel grateful everyday for the gift I have been given.
In January we had a few days where intense fog settled over the city. By the time I had got around to arranging a shoot with my friend Mandi, the fog had pretty much lifted. Although it wasn’t the foggy shoot I imagined, I must say that it was still a beautiful winter morning in Vancouver + I had so much fun photographing my amazing friend. Here are a few favorites.

For the past couple weeks we have been posting some of our favorite images from a maternity shoot we did with Katy + her family {Part One + Part Two}. Today we bring you the third + final post…and I think this might be my favorite :) Not only was Katy an absolute treat to photograph but we also could not have picked a more perfect evening. The water was calm, the beach was quiet, and the light was perfection.

Happy Monday.
