Carina + Graham are another one of our fabulous couples getting married this summer! For their engagement session we went to a place I had never been before…the Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary. I love shooting in new locations although I was a little nervous about the idea of being around so many birds. I have a slight fear but I made it out alive :) Here are a couple images from our session with these two!

Happy Tuesday! I am not sure what the weather has been like around the country but Vancouver sure has been giving us the most beautiful May. Hoping that trend stays for the entire summer! Today we are sharing with you a recent engagement session we did with the lovely Mary + Tony. Playland, Gastown + a beautiful street in Shaughnessy were the locations of choice for these two…and I LOVED every single one of them! All three spots had a special meaning for Mary + Tony which only makes the session all the more beautiful. This is the reason we love for our couples to play a big part in deciding where they want their engagement session to take place. We want it to be personal + a reflection of who they are.

Our first stop was at Playland. I have wanted to do a session here for quite some time so was thrilled when they picked it. Mary had made arrangements beforehand to be able to access the park but when we arrived the people working the ticket counter would not let us in. A big thank you to the really nice guy who made an exception for us :) The ferris wheel is extra special for these two as Tony proposed to Mary on a ferris wheel in Chicago! So awesome. Next stop was Gastown. Here is where they had their very first date. Now every year on their anniversary they go back to the same restaurant for dinner. I love that! Shaughnessy was the last stop for their engagement session. This was the neighborhood that Mary grew up in and was a perfect location for a some bike riding. We felt so lucky to be able to get the entire street to ourselves! Mary + Tony are such a sweet couple. Tony is a dentist + Mary owns a frozen yogurt shop called Scoop on 4th Ave. After a day at the beach this summer make sure you stop by and get some frozen goodness! Mary + Tony will be getting married in just a few short weeks at the UBC Boathouse! We feel so blessed to have met them at the Lovestruck Bridal Show and look forward to their wedding!

Today my beautiful niece Payton celebrates another birthday. Hard to believe she is already 4! It’s moments like this that make me feel old.
Payton is our independent girl who has a great imagination + can tell a story from a book without being able to read. Payton has brought so much joy to our family with her fun + spunky personality. She loves books, anything with sugar, Dora, the trampoline, and her Uncle Mike…yes, I know this to be true. Anytime I talk to her on the phone her first question is always “where’s uncle Mike?” It hurts a little but I still love her :)
Happy Birthday Patie…eat some cake for us!

Here are a few images from our short + sweet birthday shoot. Besides being cold and almost breaking my leg by falling into a badger hole (thank you Mr. Badger) I must say we got some fun shots of the beautiful Payton!

Naomi is a good friend of ours + is one of the most beautiful people on the planet. She is the mother of three handsome boys + is married to the love of her life, John Mark. Any day now, they will be welcoming baby #4 in to their family. And this time, it’s a girl! How absolutely perfect is that? I love this family so very much + cannot wait to hear the news of sweet girl’s entrance into this world. She is one lucky girl to have three older brothers to love + protect her. I met up with Naomi + the family the last time I was home to take a few photos. Naomi had painted this picture for me that she had gained 100 pounds + was going to be in need of some serious photoshop. Ya, that was so far from the truth. Naomi was radiant and as beautiful as ever. Enjoy a few favorite images from our session together //

Meet my friend Alyssa. She has graced the blog a few times so you might remember her beautiful face. Today is Alyssa’s birthday!! The original plan was not to post his shoot today but I thought it was fitting considering it is her birthday! One thing (among many) that I love about Alyssa is how spontaneous she is. This shoot happened because Alyssa called me when she was on her way home from work and said “do you want to do a shoot right now?” Two things to point out…{one} it was pouring rain (not a typical Vancouver rain but more like a prairie rain) + {two} it was about 10 minutes away from being pitch black out. If you have ever looked at our work, you would notice that we prefer to use the natural light that God has given us, so shooting in the dark is not really our thing. But I loved the challenge that Alyssa had put before me. I grabbed my camera + umbrella and headed outside to meet up with Alyssa (who, by the way, was still dressed in her beautiful work clothes). We did not have to go far to find the perfect location…a parking lot one block from my home that had a huge puddle + a bright light. With the umbrella in one hand and my camera in the other we both did our thing for the next twenty minutes and I am so happy with the photos that we created. I learned two things that day…(1) rain + dark = fun (2) stepping out of your comfort zone is always a good thing.

Alyssa, Happy Birthday my friend. Thank you for always being life giving…for not being afraid to dream and take risks. Excited to see all the adventures + blessings this year holds for you :)
